The latest update for EDIUS NLE software, version 5.50, is now available as a free download from www.grassvalley.com.

This update contains bug fixes, and is an official localized version.

To download this update, follow this link to log into the Web site and view your list of Desktop Product-related downloads. From there, you should see ‘EDIUS v5′ from the list (requires registration for it to appear). Choose this product.

Scroll down to the ‘Updates’ section and the v5.50 update will be there.

Note: This package can only upgrade an existing system. That is, you will need to have installed EDIUS v5.1x software. If you are installing on a fresh system, you will need to first install from your original CD-ROM/DVD-ROM, apply the v5.10 update and then apply this update. You will also need to have your security dongle inserted.

Important Note: This update provides Windows 7 compatibility. Users will need to refer to this guide for directions on how to install EDIUS v5 on Windows 7 systems.

Supported Hardware:

  • IEEE 1394 FireWire controllers
  • ADVC1394, ACEDVio
  • EDIUS NX Series
  • EDIUS SP Series
  • EDIUS RX-E1 (SDI-based hardware)
  • EDIUS Turnkey Systems
  • HDSTORM Series
  • HDSPARK Series
  • HDTHUNDER

New features added in this version (from v5.12)

  • Support to run on Windows 7 (32/64bit). Note: You cannot upgrade your PC to Windows 7 if your editing machine is connected to an EDIUS Workgroup Server (EWGS) SAN system. If the machine is upgraded, your machine won’t be able to connect to the SAN, because the EWGS only supports Windows XP-based machines as editing clients. Also, if your machine is a Grass Valley EDIUS turnkey, you cannot upgrade the current OS (Windows XP) to Windows 7, as this will void the warranty
  • AVCHD native editing. EDIUS 5.50 has a new AVCHD engine. By this, you can place an AVCHD clip onto the timeline without the need for conversion to HQ for real-time editing. No optional hardware/software required to get this function. Note: Real-time editing performance will depend on CPU performance. A general performance guide is as follows:
    • Intel Core i7: provides real-time editing with three 1920×1080 streams
    • Intel Core2 Quad: provides real-time editing with one 1920×1080 stream
    • Intel Core2 Duo: provides real-time editing with one 1440×1080 stream
  • Added support for color space of CANON EOS Movie files

Issues fixed in this version (from v5.12)

  • Fixed issue with drastically changing color when loading certain QuickTime movie (H.264) files
  • Fixed issue with lip-sync alignment when converting certain clips that had the frame rate changed
  • Fixed issue with error (access violation) when performing certain operations on Player window
  • Fixed issue with evaluating certain color space when using vectorscope / waveform
  • Fixed issue with region filter where the rendering got cancelled in areas where the filter is not applied
  • Fixed issue with timeline operation when clicking the monitor window while changing the border color in 2D transitions

NAB 2010, Las Vegas, USA — April 15, 2010 — Blackmagic Design today announced full compatibility with the new Sony “HDCAM-SR” SRW-5800/2 deck for capture and playback in native 2K.

Real time 2K capture and playback will be shown on the Blackmagic Design NAB 2010 booth at #SL 6020.

At NAB 2007, Blackmagic Design introduced Multibridge Eclipse and HDLink Pro, which introduced the world’s first 3 Gb/s SDI connections for editing and monitoring. At this time, Blackmagic Design introduced a new 2K SDI format that took advantage of the faster speed of 3 Gb/s SDI, and this allowed real time capture and playback of 2K 2048 x 1556. This new 2K over SDI format allowed feature film work to be handled using the same easy workflows as video had traditionally benefited from.

Since that time, Blackmagic Design has introduced a wide range of products with 3 Gb/s SDI and support for 2K. These models include DeckLink HD Extreme 2, DeckLink HD Extreme 3, Multibridge Eclipse, Multibridge Pro, HDLink Pro, HDLink Pro Optical Fiber, Studio Videohub, Broadcast Videohub, Enterprise Videohub, Mini Converter Optical Fiber and more.

With a current installed base of tens of thousands of customers using Blackmagic Design products that support 3 Gb/s and native 2K, all these customers will now be fully compatible with this new Sony HDCAM-SR deck with 2K for direct to tape capture and playback.

2K SDI is an open format, and is published in Blackmagic Design operation manuals for products that support 2K. Any company can develop products that support 2K SDI allowing this exciting SDI film format to become widely adopted. This format will also be submitted to standards organizations for adoption.

Blackmagic Design’s DaVinci Resolve color correction system has also been updated to include support for DeckLink HD Extreme 3, and now also supports native 2K color grading direct to and from the new Sony HDCAM-SR deck. This allows for the first time, full end to end DI workflow with the ease of conventional video workflows. Now customers have an easy way to color correct and edit in native 2K, and eliminate the slow and cumbersome file based workflows.

NAB 2010, Las Vegas, USA — April 12, 2010 — Blackmagic Design today announced UltraStudio Pro, the world’s first broadcast quality SD/HD capture and playback solution for USB 3.0 computers! UltraStudio Pro combines the latest broadcast technology into an attractive ultra-thin design that fits into modern client friendly post production environments.

UltraStudio Pro will be demonstrated on the Blackmagic Design NAB 2010 booth at #SL 6020.

UltraStudio Pro includes the mind blowing speed of the new USB 3.0 interface, which is ten times the speed of regular USB, and runs at a massive 4.8 Gb/s speed. USB 3.0 easily has enough speed for the highest quality uncompressed 10 bit HD video with the maximum real time effects possible!

UltraStudio Pro’s innovative design looks great on the desktop while hiding the cables behind the unit. With dozens of audio and video connections built in, the new style of design is critical to keeping cables hidden and editors can keep their studio neat and clean! UltraStudio Pro’s chassis is machined from solid metal with high grip silicon feet, so it’s strong enough to withstand harsh broadcast environments and won’t move around when heavy cables are connected. UltraStudio Pro also includes audio level meters for accurate audio level calibration.

Blackmagic Design UltraStudio Pro

Blackmagic Design UltraStudio Pro

UltraStudio Pro provides a massive number of video and audio connections including 3 Gb/s SDI, HDMI, analog component, composite, s-video, 4 channel analog audio, 2 channel AES/ EBU audio, genlock/tri-sync and RS422 deck control connections. UltraStudio Pro even includes a broadcast quality 7 foot/2 meter breakout cable, so users will save hundreds of dollars because they don’t need to purchase expensive professional video and audio cables!

An independent SDI output is included that is down converted for simultaneous HD and SD monitoring. A new built in hardware up, down and cross converter lets you edit in one format, and then output to any HD or SD format! Now its easy to edit in one format and then deploy in either SD, 720HD or 1080HD while leaving all CPU time dedicated to real time effects. Selection is possible between letterbox, anamorphic 16:9 and pillar- box 4:3 video formats!

“With USB 3.0 becoming more common on computers, we are excited to be able to completely rethink how broadcast products are designed! This new upright design really shows that high technology broadcast products don’t need to be ugly! I am so excited by how much leading edge technology we have been able to build into such a thin design”, said Grant Petty, CEO, Blackmagic Design, “I think UltraStudio Pro will help make high quality editing more exciting because with USB 3.0, we have more freedom to be creative in how we design products, and the result is a wonderful solution that looks great, hides the cables, works as an audio level meter and is incredibly compact and portable. I have dreamed of being able to make products like UltraStudio Pro for many years, and it’s one of the most exciting products we have ever built!”
